Our Story

About Field’s End Farm

Field’s End Farm is a small farm rooted in stewardship, respect, and traditional skills. We raise rabbits with care, make practical handcrafted goods, and share the knowledge we gain along the way. Our work is not about producing as much as possible, but about doing things well — raising animals responsibly, wasting as little as we can, remaining honest about the process, and preserving skills worth passing on.

How It Started

Field’s End Farm began in October 2023 with 14 guinea fowl and a desire to become more connected to where our food comes from and the skills involved in producing it.

Rabbits followed in January 2024 with our first breeding pair: Jack, a New Zealand Red buck, and Casserole, a broken chestnut Rex doe. That spring, neighbours who raised rabbits themselves generously shared both their knowledge and some of their Champagne d’Argent rabbits with us. They taught us how to raise and process rabbits, helping to build the practical foundation of the rabbitry we have today. Chickens joined the farm around the same time.

Since then, the herd has grown gradually. We periodically introduce new rabbits while retaining promising animals from our own litters, using what we learn from each generation to guide the next.

What We’re Building

Our goal is to develop a productive mixed line of meat rabbits selected not only for good growth and health, but also for beautiful, useful fur suitable for tanning. Rather than treating the hide as a by-product to be discarded, we want it to become part of the value of raising the animal.

That reflects the larger philosophy behind Field’s End Farm: make thoughtful use of what the farm provides, learn from experience, keep good records, and continually improve how we raise our animals.

As the farm grows, we hope to share more of that knowledge through handcrafted goods, educational resources, workshops, and opportunities to experience small-scale farming firsthand.
